Keynote Speaker

Dr. Alberto Rojo, PhD

Rojo is a physicist, musician, writer, and storyteller whose work bridges the worlds of science and the humanities. He earned his PhD in Physics in Bariloche (Argentina) and is now a Professor at Oakland University, following postdoctoral research at The University of Chicago and a faculty position at the University of Michigan. His research in theoretical condensed matter physics includes collaborations with Nobel laureate Anthony Leggett, while his studies on geological formations have made headlines in The New York Times and other major outlets.

Beyond the lab, Rojo is a passionate communicator of science. He has authored four books, including The Principle of Least Action, History and Physics (with Anthony Bloch), and hosted award-winning science TV shows in Argentina. His fascination with the intersection of physics and literature—especially the connections between Borges and quantum mechanics—led to Borges and Quantum Physics, a collection of essays exploring these ideas.

Not confined to the written word, Rojo’s creative reach extends to music. He has released three solo albums and shared a Latin Grammy with the legendary Mercedes Sosa. In 2023, his contributions to art and science earned him an honorary degree from the University of Buenos Aires and recognition from the Argentine Congress.
